I've been working with print design for nearly a decade. Concentrating on advertising, branding and concentrated pieces has allowed me to focus on the fundamentals. When it comes to getting a point across in a confined print piece, it comes down to message, presentation and typograpy. There isn't room to stretch out your legs and let the piece take its time.
At the same time, I've been part of the larger production process, getting full publications to press, meeting specs from various printers, adapting to changing technologies, and upgrading to new workflows.
